Barbie Doll Bandits

You gotta love it. Two, apparently affluent White teen girls in their Nicole Ritchie sunglasses, hip-huggin' jeans and layered belly-tees walk into a bank mini-branch (a bank branch located inside a mall or grocery store), hand the clerk a note and run off with a sizeable amount of cash!

And, for many of the talking-heads and "authorities" they think the girls robbed the bank not because they needed money (although those trendy jeans and sunglasses can be prety pricey) but more as a "lark". A prank; something to do because they were bored.

And, I get the impression that when (if) caught they'll get a slap on the wrist, maybe have to do some community service like standing in front of some adolescent classroom and tell the students that "robbing banks is bad" or maybe just return the money they haven't already spent and promise not to do it anymore.

Now... if this were a couple of affluent Black (or Hispanic) teens in their Miami's and BabyPhat jeans, smiling and handing a bank teller a note telling her/him to "hand it over" there would have ensued a nationwide manhunt going down and they would have already been caught. We'd be seeing them half-nekkid, wild-haired and looking like the menacing doctored photos of O.J., in their orange prison jumpsuits at their First Appearance court hearing and not one of the talking heads on TV would be smiling and calling them something cute like the "Barbie Doll Bandits".

Monica would be all serious-faced and caling them misguided and potentially dangerous.

What really gets to me is... these whitegirls have done what I fantasized about for years. C'mon... who hasn't had one of those "Set It Off" moments when you see a parked Brinks truck?
